Thomas’ High School Senior Photos, Stonington CT | Drop Anchor Photography

Class of 2018 | Thomas

I had so much fun laughing and exploring downtown Mystic, Connecticut with Thomas for his high school senior portrait session. Here are some of my favorites!

Certain clothing and colors will look better depending on the location we are shooting in and I will always provide advice before and during the session. Most of our seniors ask me to suggest locations for their photoshoot. I have a variety of favorite locations that are beautiful and private, especially if you are anxious about your session. It will be fun, I promise. Most of our seniors are Snapchatting behind the scenes photos before we’ve even arrived at the second location. Our sessions are fun, relaxed, and aimed at providing you the best experience possible.

Family Photography, Gypsy Woods Farm: North Stonington, CT | Drop Anchor Photography

As a family photographer based in Mystic, Connecticut, options for beautiful locations on the Connecticut shoreline are limitless. On this grey October afternoon, I was introduced to another magical place: Gypsy Woods Farm in North Stonington, Connecticut.

Located just fifteen minutes from Mystic, the farm feels like home as soon as you drive onto the sprawling country driveway that leads up to the barn. And, home it is to my beautiful friend Ashley.

Ashley and I were introduced to each other, what feels like now- a hundred years ago. She was living in Mystic, and I was just out of college; splitting my time between visiting Mystic on the weekends, and (pre-internet) trying to determine John Mayer’s real Connecticut address so that I could drive to his house in Fairfield and convince him to marry me. Not kidding. Lots of time invested in that one.

Ashley is the type of person you could not see for years, but pick up conversation as if you left her home yesterday. Ask any of her friends, they’ll agree. Her smile is contagious. Her laugh is infectious, and the room just feels brighter when she’s in it. Half of the interior decorating decisions I made in my first home were taken directly from one of Ashley’s first homes. The list goes on and on.

These days, the months of July through November are a blur. Real life, deadlines, re-prioritizing priorities on an hourly/weather-related basis take over. It was awesome to forget all of that for a minute and spend a really nice afternoon with a friend. Here are some of my favorites from her session with her beautiful daughter, Reese.

Lawless Family Portraits at Harkness Park, Waterford CT | Drop Anchor Photography

The Lawless family is gracing the Drop Anchor Photography blog for the third time in as many years. This year, we photographed their fall family photos at Harkness Memorial Park in Waterford, Connecticut. Harkness Park’s variety of large grassy fields, colorful flower gardens, and stunning ocean views make for the perfect backdrop for family photography during any season. This particular day was no different. Temperatures in the seventies, soft golden light, and a beautiful family is all any professional photographer can ask for.

I’m so thankful for families like the Lawless family. As I’m sending off their 2017 Gallery, I am so happy that we’ve already decided on the location for their 2018 photos… their lake house in Connecticut. I can’t wait to see it and to create something beautiful.

Here are some of my favorites from their session.

Talstein Family: Mystic, Connecticut Family Photographer | Drop Anchor Photography

I knew I wanted to become friends with Jennie from the moment we first spoke on the phone. We discussed her sweet family, her desire to fill the empty walls in her home with portraits of her family, and the challenge of scheduling two sessions, just a few days apart from each other with her husband still off to sea. I knew that I could make everything work, but it was the tone of her voice in the phone calls that really pulled at my heart. As a mom to two small adorable kiddos, she is constantly dealing with moving parts. And, sometimes those parts move so quickly that you don’t have time to simply sit back and enjoy them. Jennie is someone who values photography and wants to enjoy and relish in those moments daily. To the moms who call me with a phone in one hand, baby in another, and the rest of your focus on your toddler running through the kitchen, I am here for you. I want to work with you so that your memories, these tiny monumental events that are passing by so quickly, we can make last forever.

It was a dream to work with your beautiful family, Jennie. Your children are the sweetest angels and I am obsessively checking my texts messages to see what your beautiful canvas, metal prints, and mounted portraits look like filling the walls of your new home.

XOXO, Lisa

Jackie’s Harkness Park Beach Maternity Session, Waterford, CT | Drop Anchor Photography

Tonight’s beach maternity session was magical and one of those “the world comes full circle” kind of moments for me.

Jackie and I have known each other since we were little kids. We lived 6 houses away from each other on the same street and I used to babysit her in the summer when I was 13 years old. I remember her sweet little laugh, her white blonde hair, her falling asleep on my lap watching Fraggle Rock, and most of all, I just remember looking down at her big smiling eyes when she was so little.

Tonight, a beautiful woman I did not recognize stepped out of the car with her husband, arms outstretched walking towards me. It was all I could do not to cry.

Although we’ve been messaging each other about tonight for months, we hadn’t seen each other in years, and I don’t know if I was truly ready for the flood of emotion I’d feel when I actually saw her. Within a few seconds of her getting out of the car she giggled, and I was transported back to my childhood.

We never could have known back then that we’d both become photographers. Today, Jackie is the lady behind the lens of Cardinal Moments Photography, she’s an extremely talented artist, a wife, and most importantly, a soon to be mom. I cannot tell you how special it was for me to be a part of this.

Jackie, you are such a beautiful soul and I’m so happy we were able to reconnect after all of these years. I’m so over the moon happy for you both and I cannot wait to meet Ellouise.

Elizabeth’s 1st Birthday Cake Smash Mystic, CT | Drop Anchor Photography

One of my favorite things to photograph are 1st Birthday Cake Smash sessions in our Mystic, Connecticut photography studio. I love the planning that goes into it, the phone calls with mom to discuss outfits. I love shopping for props and most of all, seeing the little smiles as we walk the cake out onto the set.

I always begin by photographing traditional first birthday portraits in the child’s first outfit against a clean backdrop. Next, we change into the Cake Smashing outfit and bring the cake out. When Elizabeth’s mom sent me a photo of the Cake Smashing dress she planned to bring, I just knew that we had to incorporate clouds into our set! I’m so happy with how it all turned out and I can’t wait to deliver the Entire Digital Collection of images to Elizabeth’s mom and dad.

I hope these make you smile. Here are some of my favorites from her Session. Happy 1st Birthday, sweet Elizabeth.

Sophia’s High School Senior Portraits, Stonington CT | Drop Anchor Photography

This session makes me smile.  I met her Erin and Frank a few months ago when they came to the Studio for their in person consultation. Their daughter, Sophia, had been asking them for High School Senior photos and they set up an appointment with me to find out what this was all about. When Erin and I first spoke, she told me, “I didn’t even know that senior photos were a “thing.” (They are!)

As Erin started talking to me about her daughters, she began to cry, which of course made me tear up. You can tell that family is her number one priority, and that she was envisioning what portraits of her family might look like on her own walls. I watched as her and her husband picked up and touched each of our beautiful products. They asked important questions, we looked at our calendars, and decided on a date towards the end of summer.

When the date finally arrived, I finally got to meet Sophia. She is such a beautiful soul, full of light and laughter. She is absolutely stunning and so much more in person that I could’ve grasped from her beautiful Instagram account. I had so much fun with her. She was up for anything and I’m so excited to finally share her beautiful portraits. It was so hard to choose just a few from the more than 150 images that were delivered, but here are just a few of my favorites.

Sophia, you have the entire world in front of you and I cannot wait to see everything you accomplish. Congrats and best of luck in your final year of high school. XOXO, Lisa

Connecticut Beach Photographer, Mystic CT | Drop Anchor Photography

Harkness Park, located in Waterford Connecticut is a special place for this family. Host to a beautiful white sand beach, kid friendly waves, and an inherent family atmosphere, it was fitting that we’d come back to photograph their 2017 family photographs here.

I feel so much joy while looking at these images. Jen is a planner. We’d discussed outfits, colors and accessories weeks before the date of her family session. They arrived at the beach with their perfectly paired outfits and within five minutes, both boys jumped fully clothed in the water. My heart sank a little. When I looked up expecting her to be flustered, she was egging her boys on to make bigger splashes!!?! Wow. What a way to embrace life. We all have choices, and Jen you became my hero for turning what was going to be a beautiful session into something truly extraordinary. I can’t wait to hand deliver these portraits to her home and see her expression as she opens each beautiful print. She has a beautiful family and I’m so honored to have been able to spend time with them to capture these beautiful moments.

Here are some of my favorites from this beautiful late summer beach session.

You can’t over emphasize the importance of family, this is why I have dedicated my life to telling their stories. As I watch my own parents age, I find excuses and ways to be with them. I know I won’t have them forever, and I struggle to find the balance between living a truly fulfilling life and operating a profitable business that allows me the time to enjoy them. I feel so lucky to live in this beautiful town with my two sisters less than five minutes from me. I feel so fortunate that my parents can drive to Mystic and choose between three houses to stay at, any day of the week. In a perfect world, none of us would work, we’d travel and explore this beautiful life together. I am so fortunate to have found a job that I love, that gives me purpose. Everything that I find myself doing now is to fulfill something I know I can’t get back in the future. I am just so grateful for finding this path so early.

I met this sweet family of four on a beautiful summer morning in Stonington, Connecticut. Their two gorgeous blonde haired girls are the center of their world and they had me smiling from the minute I met them. It reminded me of my own family, and capturing what is perfect for them made everything in my day worth it. Here are some of my favorites from their session.
